Presents Tom Cooney

Our co-founder and vice president Tom Cooney is a motivational speaker who grips audiences with his ability to reach into their hearts, conveying his triumph over many of life's obstacles in a humorous and compelling way. Profoundly deaf since he was nine months old, Tom was confined to a wheelchair for several years of his childhood. He has a wealth of stories to share that will inspire young and old to never give up.

As a volunteer, Tom has introduced sign language to almost 1-million hearing children. Many of them have grown up to become interpreters for the deaf. As an advocate for the deaf community, Tom has shared American Sign Language with Presidents, dignitaries, movie stars and others.

Every summer Tom gives motivational presentations at TEAMeffort Mission Retreats in Tampa, Florida. His words never fail to inspire and motivate the young people who meet him -- instantly making them aware of how one can overcome life's obstacles through perseverence, a good attitude ... and faith.

As sports writer for the Silent News Publication for 28 years, Tom interviewed many well known sports figures. Tom is also the only person in history to sign two songs at a Super Bowl --Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, Florida. "Of all the blessings God has given to me in my life," he says, "nothing can compare to my two sons."
