T.C Do you have any secrets?
P.G. Yes, the secret is hard work. I do not use my deafness as an excuse, I apply myself and dedicate my self to what's important to me and that is obtaining my goals.
T.C What are your goals?
P.G I have about a year and a half to go before I complete my studies at SPC, depending on the schedule of classes that are available. When I complete SPC my intentions are to continue at USF with preparation to becoming a Deaf Advocate.
T.C I am sure studying and classes really fill your time, are their any school curricular activities you participate in ?
PG Yes, I serve as the Student Government Representative to the ASL Club at SPC. In this liaison role I am responsible to attend meetings with other clubs and organizations on campus, it is a wonderful opportunity for me to learn about the college and all the activities it offers its students, additionally I report back to the ASL club thus the club can then be informed as well. I also coordinate fundraising activities to make our treasury grow; I really love my position.
T.C Peter, you are to be admired, many people regardless of whether they are deaf or hearing find excuse not to participate in a school activity or even further their education, you exemplify the few the strong and the brave, I wan to close this interview with one last question - What does receiving this award mean to you?
P.G I am very happy to receive this recognition, and though I don't know Brenda honoring her memory makes me proud. This award makes me feel special and makes me want to try harder to succeed. I am taking off the summer, a much-needed break from the full load of subjects I studied in spring. The funds I am receiving will be beneficial and help me in planning my fall semester.
