Take a Moment to Enjoy Tom's Mike Timlin Interview Again
Mike Timlin still looked the same, tall and lanky and easy going, with a boyish charm. Several years had passed since my last interview with Mike . I was curious if he would recognize me. As I approached him he looked over at me disengaging from a conversation he was having with a lady, his smile told me he remembered me. As the interview commenced I asked him if he would mind my taping the interview. ”Not at all” he said with a quizzing look, I smiled. He looked wonderful and I reminded myself this was a major league baseball player, who is a member of the hottest team in the major leagues. This year a team most baseball personalities expect to go all the way in 2004,The Boston Red Sox.
The Interview:
TC: Spring training will begin Feb 20; you will be meeting with Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling , what are your feelings about that?
MT: ( Mike laughs ) I really can’t wait to sit down with Pedro and Curt and discuss the hitters we will be facing this season. Those 2 men are very smart, it will give me an opportunity to compare my notes to theirs and what they know. We have a really good team. Last year we came up a little short. Every year I am in Baseball, it’s been 13 now; I learn I get better with age. Curt Schilling gives so much of himself, doing charity work for ALS (Lou Gehrigs’ Disease), My mom passed away two years ago, due to ALS, I am grateful to Curt for his contributions.
TC: You Played with Roger Clemens in Toronto, what can you tell me about when he was your team mate, were you surprised he signed with Houston ?
MT: Yes, though I know it was a good move for him. Roger is a wonderful competitor and a nice guy on and off the field.
Just to remind every one Mike Timlin is no slouch when it comes to pitching. He was a WORKHORSE for the Red Sox last year pitching 83 innings over 72 games. The most since his 108 innings for Toronto back in 1991
